Dealing with Dante


6: Runny Noses

You would think that, being a half-demon, Dante would almost never get sick.

And you’d be right.

But that didn’t mean he could never get sick. It was just very, very rare.

Unfortunately for you, he managed to get sick on a day you had to go over to his place.

“(Naaammmmeeee)!”

Also unfortunately for you, said half-demon turned into the biggest, whiniest, neediest baby in the world when he was sick.

A very annoyed groan escaped you. “What, Dante?”

“Get me a magazine.”

“Can’t you see I’m working right now? Doing your cleaning?”

“Hey you— *hack, cough, wheeze* were the one who agreed to doing my cleaning.”

“Yeah. And fetching your lazy ass magazines wasn’t a part of that.”

“You mean my sick ass.”

“Whatever.”

“How can you be so cruel to me? I’m disabled.”

“In the head, maybe.”

“What.”

“You missed a spot.”

“Oh My G—!”


7: No More Dante

With a sigh, you finished up the last of your cleaning for the day. The mess Dante had left behind today was particularly bad, so you’d been stuck at his place a little longer than expected.

You called to Dante as you put the cleaning supplies away. “Hey, I’m heading home now!”

When you got no response, you poked your head into his “office” to repeat yourself. “I’m heading home, Dante.”

“Today’s your last day, you know.”

You blinked in surprise. “What?”

“Come see.”

You moved further into the room to check the calendar you’d made Dante put up. “Oh. I guess it is.”

You’d almost forgotten that your time at Dante’s had a time limit of sorts. Coming over to his place to clean had become such a regular part of your life that you were obviously unprepared to find out it was over.

“Well…I guess I’ll see you around. Maybe.”

Dante nodded as he walked you to the door. “Yeah. Try not to get into trouble. Wouldn’t wanna have to save you again.”

You managed a short laugh and shook your head. “Right. And I wouldn’t wanna have to inconvenience you.”

“Damn straight.”

“Bye then, Dante.”

“Bye, (Name).”

You lifted your hand in a short wave before leaving and heading down the street.

For once, the two of you were on the same page, although you didn’t know it.

Why did that goodbye feel so…sad?
