3: Family Surprise

Despite your attempts to wheedle something out of Makoto, his answer about what he wanted to do for his birthday remained the same. Oh well. Just meant things would be a little easier for you.

So you got him to agree to go to lunch with you to his favorite restaurant and then texted his mom while he was in the bathroom to let her know the plan.

You’d already made arrangements with his family to have them come up for part of his birthday. He hadn’t seen them in several months because his classes and job had been keeping him busy and you knew he missed them. So you figured that at least part of the day should be spent with his family.

You opted to drive the two of you to the restaurant so he’d have to have his eyes closed.

Makoto chuckled, his eyes shut, as you drove. “I know where we’re going, why are my eyes closed?”

“You’ll see,” you said with a laugh, pulling into the lot and parking. You hurried out and went around to help Makoto out of his seat, making sure he still had his eyes closed and receiving even more chuckles.

Finally, you got him in front of the restaurant and, with a bit of a giggle, told him to open his eyes.

With an amused smile, Makoto followed your orders, barely able to see his parents, Ren and, Ran before the twins rushed at him with shouts of “Big Brother.”

Makoto let out a slightly disbelieving laugh as he stared at his younger siblings before laughing more normally and lifting them up into a hug, going over to add his parents into the mix not long after. You could only watch and laugh, so glad that he’s happy.

He pulled away a few minutes later to come over and take your hands, a big grin on his face as he kissed you.

“Thank you so much.”

You giggled quietly. “You’re welcome, baby. I’m glad you’re happy.”

“Of course I’m happy. I get to spend time with my family and my girlfriend.”

“That’s good. Let’s get inside and spend time with them, kay?”

“Okay~”


--A couple hours later—


Lunch with Makoto’s family was wonderful and he was so happy to have gotten to see them after going months without.

And as soon as the two of you stepped into your apartment he let you know by swooping you up into his arms and kissing you. All you could do was laugh and kiss him back.

After a few moments, the two of you finally separated, but only barely.

“Did you like your second surprise?”

“I loved it. Not as much as I love you, though.”

“You cheeseball.”
