"Hey, Ludwig. Have you seen my purse?" Your boyfriend of nine months turned his head to look at you from his position on the couch.

"No I haven't, lieben. Where vas it last?"

"I think it was on the kitchen table," you said, scratching your head and looking around the living room. "But I already looked in there."

"Vat did it look like again?"

"It's small and black, with silver lines going over it." Ludwig stood up and pressed a kiss to your forehead.

"Alright, liebling. I'll help you look for it."

"Thanks, Ludwig." He nodded and headed upstairs to begin the search. You started making your way through the first floor of the house, leaving no space untouched. You'd just finished searching the kitchen again when Ludwig called to you from upstairs.

"Is zis ze right one, (Name)?" he asked as he came down the stairs. You leaned into the hallway to get a look.

"Yes! Where was it?" You went over to him and took the purse from him, looking into it to make sure nothing fell out.

"It vas in my study."

"That's weird. I don't remember going in there," you muttered, still rifling through your purse. You were messing with too many things at once and some of your items fell out onto the floor. Ludwig immediately bent to pick them up, but he paused as he looked at the little book you'd been keeping in your purse for the past week or so.

"German Phrases for Dummies?" he questioned, looking at the back of the book. You flushed and took your other items from him and tried taking the book from him. But he'd begun flipping through the pages and you didn't want to rip it, so you stopped your efforts. He glanced at you and your blush grew worse.

"Vhy do you have zis book, (Name)?"

"Um…I wanted to try and learn some German…for you," you said quietly, staring down at your feet. Ludwig chuckled and pulled your head to his chest, resting his chin on top of it.

"You could have just asked me to teach you if you vanted to learn."

"I-I know, but I wouldn't want you to get frustrated with me. And it'd be embarrassing to mess up."

"Lieben, I could never get frustrated with you. Learning a new language is hard. I'd just be happy zat you're making ze effort for me." You sighed and wrapped your arms around him.

"Well, I mean, if you wouldn't mind…"

"Of course not. I-hmmm."

"What is it?"

"I could probably get Austria to help teach you. It might be easier to have at least one other person help me with zis."

"Wait. Is Austria your brother?"

"Nein. Zat vould be Prussia. Although I don't think I vant him meeting you. He can be very obnoxious, at ze very least." You laughed and took your book back from him.

"Well alright then. I'll trust your judgment on this one, Professor." Ludwig just chuckled again and gently pushed you to the front door.

"Ve might as vell head over to Austria's place now, zen. Can't hurt to get a head start on your German." Excited at the prospect of learning the language that belonged to your boyfriend, you grabbed his hand and pulled him out to the car. Ludwig unlocked and started the car as quickly as he could when he saw how eager you were.

As he drove to Austria's home, he couldn't help but feel a little excited himself. A part of him had kept hoping that you would express an interest in German and want to learn it. He already thought his language was beautiful, even though it was gruff, but he could only imagine how much more wonderful it would sound when you spoke it.

"So, lieben, do you know any German at all?" You stared at the road and thought about what little German you'd picked up from Ludwig and from reading your book.

"Well, I know how to say a couple greetings."

"Let me hear you say good morning."

"Guten Morgen."

"Gut. Now say good night."

"Gute Nacht?" Ludwig smiled at your uncertainty.

"Ja, zat's it. Do you know anything else?" You blushed. There had been one phrase in particular you'd wanted to learn, but you were worried he'd think you were silly for it. Ludwig noticed your blush and glanced at you before looking back at the road.

"Vat is it?"

"W-well, there was one sentence that I really wanted to know and learned how to say, but..."

"Let me hear it."

"I-Ich liebe dich." Ludwig felt his face heat up and his lips form a large smile. It's not like you hadn't told him you loved him before. But hearing it in his native tongue was just something else entirely.

You had to do a double take to make sure what you were seeing was real. You'd never seen Ludwig smile that big before! And with a blush! You supposed you had no reason to worry about him thinking you silly for wanting to learn to say "I love you" more than anything.

Ludwig gently took your hand and kissed the back of it. You smiled a little giddily and squeezed his hand.

"Vill you say it again?" Now it was your turn to blush, upon hearing his request.

"Ich liebe dich, Ludwig." He sighed and his smile grew softer.

"Ich liebe dich auch, (Name)." You leaned over and kissed his cheek, proud that you could get such reactions out of him.

In no time at all, Ludwig was pulling down a long drive in a forest that let out to a clearing that held a gorgeous mansion. Your eyes widened at the sight of such a fancy house.

"Austria lives here?" you asked, as you got out of the car.

"Ja. He has vat I like to call an aristocrat complex," Ludwig answered, leading you to the front door.

"Meaning?"

"Meaning, he acts like he is of a higher status than others. He is also very particular about music. All he listens to is classical and claims everything else is rubbish."

"Oh. Sounds fancy."

"If zat's vat you vant to call it." Before Ludwig could ring the doorbell, the strangest noise you'd ever heard erupted from inside the house. Ludwig seemed to recognize it though, because he groaned and pressed a hand to his face.

"Gott, vhy is he here?" he muttered, pulling you to the side just in time as the door slammed open and a blue blur sped past, followed by various flying objects.

"Kesesesese! You'll never get a hold of ze awesome me, Austria!" You stared after the person in shock.

"That was a laugh??" you asked, incredulously.

"Ja. Und zat vas Prussia," Ludwig reluctantly admitted.

"Oh my," you whispered, watching as another person ran out of the house and after Prussia.

"Und zat vas Austria." You watched the two countries running around the open space in front of the house.

"This doesn't seem very dignified. Are you sure that's the right one?" Ludwig nodded and pulled you over to lean against the railing.

"Ja, zat's him. But Prussia is especially good at riling him up, so venever those two are near each other Austria vill most likely drop his aristocratic behavior." You hummed in response and rested your chin in your hand. This was definitely not what you expected to happen when you woke up this morning. You could hear Ludwig grumbling to himself, but couldn't make out the words. Although you had a pretty good idea of what they were about.

It seemed as though the two men were either growing bored with their game of cat and mouse, or were tiring themselves out, as they were slowing down and gradually coming back towards the porch. As Prussia was ahead of Austria, he was the first one to notice you and Ludwig standing there.

"Vest! Vat are you doing here? And who's the frau?" Austria smoothed his jacket and stepped up onto the porch.

"Yes, Germany. I vasn't expecting a visit from you today." Ludwig pushed Prussia away, who had slowly been sidling up next to you.

"I came to ask for some help, Austria. Mein girlfriend, (Name), vants to learn German, and it seems easier to have more than one person teaching her." Austria looked at you over his glasses. You weren't sure if you should curtsy or just stick out a hand for him to shake.

"You vould be (Name), zen?" You nodded. He held out a hand and you shook it.

"I am Austria. Or Roderich Edelstein, if you prefer."

"It's very nice to meet you, Mr. Edelstein."

"Vell, she has good manners, at least. Alright, Germany. I vill help you." Deciding he'd been quiet long enough, Prussia shoved Austria aside and stood in front of you with a cocky grin on his face.

"Vhy vould you ask for help from ze stuffy aristocrat ven you could have ze awesome Prussia help you?" Wow, did this guy have an ego on him.

Prussia seemed to think your staring was out of awe, because he puffed out his chest as his grin grew wider.

"Ze name's Gilbert, frau," he declared, winking at you. "And you'd do vell to remember zat." You had a feeling he was hoping you'd ask why to lead into a dirty joke, but you weren't here to flirt with your boyfriend's brother and acted accordingly.

"I shouldn't have a problem with that. You are Ludwig's brother after all." That seemed to stump him. So while he was thinking of how to turn that to his advantage, you, Roderich, and Ludwig entered the house. Roderich led you both into a lovely sitting room, with Gilbert close behind. You all sat down, some less gracefully than others (*cough*Prussia*cough*) and Roderich turned to look at you.

"So, do you know any German at all?"

"Only a few greetings. I sort of understand the pronunciation of things though." He nodded in understanding and crossed his arms.

"Zat is better than nothing. I suggest ve set up a schedule of ven you and Germany can come over to work on zis, before anything else. Zat vay, none of us have to worry about conflicting appointments." Ludwig nodded in agreement and looked over at you.

"Ven is zis best for you, (Name)?" he asked.

"Well, mainly weekends, since I work during the week. But I could try something else, if that's no good."

"Suck it losers, zis is boring," Gilbert interrupted, standing up and heading out of the room. "Ze awesome me vill see you all later." Ludwig and Roderich just face-palmed and you stared after Gilbert. You tilted your head to the side and voiced a question that you'd had since you first saw him.

"Is he really your brother?"

"Unfortunately, yes."

"I see." This was the strangest, most impromptu meet-the-family visit you'd ever experienced. But at least you were getting free German lessons out of it.

Turning back to Roderich and Ludwig, the three of you went about discussing the best times for lessons and how long they should be. Ludwig and Roderich also talked about possibly getting you some sort of "textbook" to use for practice when neither of them were around.

Once everything was decided, you and Ludwig headed out after thanking Roderich for everything he was doing.

When you got home, you couldn't help but let out a squeal as you danced around the living room. Chuckling, Ludwig gently grabbed you and pulled you to him for a hug. You giggled and buried your face in his chest.

"I'm so excited! I can't wait to start!"

"I'm glad you're looking forward to zis, liebling," he said, kissing the top of your head. "I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to see you so enthusiastic to learn mein language." Looking up at him, you smiled.

"That's exactly why I want to learn it, Ludwig. Because it is your language." Ludwig smiled and leaned his forehead on yours.

"Say it again for me. Please." Knowing exactly what he meant, you couldn't help but oblige.

"Ich liebe dich, Ludwig."

He'd never heard anything sweeter.
